Description

Defines the default mail server to use when Automate sends an email on task error or when the parameter labeled Default server settings is enabled in the Advanced properties of the Send message activity.

To access Email properties, from Task Administrator, navigate to Options > Default Properties > Email.

Mail Server

Property Description
SMTP/Microsoft Exchange The mail server to use for outgoing email. The available options are:
  • SMTP
  • Microsoft Exchange
NOTE: Properties vary depending on the option selected. Separate SMTP and MS Exchange properties are displayed below.

SMTP

The following properties are revealed if the mail server selected is SMTP:

Property Description
Server The default SMTP mail server to use (i.e. mail.yourdomain.com).
Port The port to use for the default SMTP mail server. This is usually server port 25 (default) but may be different on special network configurations, especially if behind a firewall.
Authentication type The type of authentication to be used by the mail server. The available options are:
  • None (default) - No authentication is used.
  • Auto - This will automatically detect which authentication methods the SMTP server supports and use the most secure method available.
  • Plain - Login to an SMTP server using the PLAIN mechanism.  
  • Digest-MD5
  • CRAM-MD5 - Use CRAM-MD5 authentication. CRAM-MD5 stands for challenge response authentication mechanism based on HMAC-MD5 MAC algorithm.
  • Login - Login authentication method (log in using base64 encoded password and username).
  • NTLM - Microsoft's NTLM authentication method. Authentication requires the account name and password to be set.
  • GSS-API
User name The username to be used to logon to the SMTP mail server and authenticate the mail transaction. This parameter is available only if the Authenticationtype parameter is set to any option besides None.
Password The password to be used to logon to the SMTP mail server and authenticate the mail transaction. This parameter is available only if the Authenticationtype parameter is set to any option besides None.
Security Defines the SMTP security settings. The available options are:
  • No security (default) - No encryption
  • Explicit TLS/SSL - This allows incoming connections to use the STARTTLS command to initiate a secure TLS connection.
  • Implicit TLS/SSL -This allows a secondary dedicated port for secure SSL connections to be opened. The implicit SSL port will also be affected by all the normal port bindings and limits.
Certificate The SSL certificate to be used for SSL sessions. Click the folder icon to navigate to the desired SSL certificate. This parameter is available only if the Security parameter is set to Explicit TLS/SSL or Implicit TLS/SSL.
Passphrase The passphrase to authenticate the certificate. This parameter is available only if the Security parameter is set to Explicit TLS/SSL or Implicit TLS/SSL.

Microsoft Exchange

The following properties are revealed if the mail server selected is Microsoft Exchange:

Property Description
Email address A valid email address to authenticate Exchange connection.
Password A valid password used to authenticate Exchange connection.
Exchange server The Exchange server to connect to (for example, server.domain.com).
Domain (optional) The Exchange server domain.
Protocol The Exchange server protocol. The available options are:
  • EWS (Exchange 2007 SP1 and later)
  • WEBDAV (Exchange 2003, 2007)
Version The Exchange server version. This parameter is active only if the Protocol parameter is set to EWS (Exchange 2007 SP1 and later). The available options are:
  • Exchange 2007 SP1
  • Exchange 2010
  • Exchange 2010 SP1
  • Exchange 2010 SP2
  • Exchange 2013 (default)
Authentication type The Exchange server authentication type. This parameter is active only if the Protocol parameter is set to WEBDAV (Exchange 2003, 2007).  The available options are:
