Connection Management

In the Connection Management panel, you need to specify how Secure Email Gateway is connected to the Internet. Depending on the connection option you have selected, spam defenses available from the Spam Policy panel on the SpamLogic Settings page may be limited, affecting the effectiveness of your policy.

Configure Connection Management

  1. Navigate to Policy > Manage Policy Definition > SpamLogic Settings. The SpamLogic Settings page is displayed.

  2. Select the Spam Policy tab.

  3. In the Connection Management panel, click Click here to change these settings.

  4. Select a connection option:

    • The Email Gateway receives messages directly from the Internet and performs connection management

    • The Email Gateway will not perform connection management

    • The Email Gateway does not receive messages directly from the Internet but still performs connection management

If an upstream email relay exists between the Gateway and the originating SMTP host, spam defenses that require a direct connection to the Internet, such as the following, cannot be used:

  5. If you have selected the The Email Gateway does not receive messages directly from the Internet but still performs connection management option, enter the local hostnames and IP addresses of all Mail Transfer Agents (MTA) that receive mail for your organization directly from the Internet.

    1. Click New.

    2. In the Add an MTA dialog, enter an MTA. You must enter the hostname and IP address in the form that it appears in the "Received" header added by that MTA. You can view the "Received" header in the raw SMTP data of a held message.

    3. Click Add. The MTA is added to the list.

    4. To remove an entry in the MTA list, select the filename you wish to remove, then click Delete.

  6. Click Save.
