Configuration Backup and Restore
Secure Email Gateway saves previously applied configurations in the Configuration History.
Configuration Backup and Restore enables you to backup these configurations by exporting them to disk or emailing them to a specific email address. You can also restore a previously applied configuration from the Configuration History or restore a backed-up configuration from disk.
Configuration areas available for backup and restore

View the Configuration History
- Navigate to System > Configuration > Backup & Restore. The Backup & Restore page is displayed.

Select the Configuration History tab. Previously applied configurations are displayed.
If more than 10 configurations have been applied, you can view older configurations by expanding the Preceding Configurations list. - Select a configuration from the list. The Configuration Details are displayed. If a log is available for the deployment, a link to the log is provided.
Backup the configuration
You can export previously applied configurations from the Configuration History to a location of your choice. This is useful for archiving changes made to your security policy, as well as providing an external backup of your system configuration.
| When upgrading your Gateway, backup your configuration before you install an upgrade, so you have a backup available if you need to restore a previous version of the software. |

Backup a configuration
- Navigate to System > Configuration > Backup & Restore. The Backup & Restore page is displayed.

Select the Configuration History tab. Previously applied configurations are displayed.
- Select the configuration you wish to backup.
- In the task panel, click Backup the selected Configuration.
- The configuration file (
.bk) will be exported to disk (a suitable location on your computer).

Email a configuration
- Navigate to System > Configuration > Backup & Restore. The Backup & Restore page is displayed.

Select the Configuration History tab. Previously applied configurations are displayed.
- Select the configuration you wish to email.
- In the task panel, click Mail the Configuration.
- Specify the recipient(s) and the subject line in the Send Configuration to dialog.
- Click Send.
Restore the configuration
You can restore your Gateway to a configuration that was previously applied. You can do this either from the list of previously applied configurations on the Configuration History tab or from a configuration that has been backed up to disk.
| Secure Email Gateway allows you to restore the system to a configuration that previously failed to deploy. For example, you might want to restore a configuration to resolve problems with it, then attempt to re-apply it. |

- System > Configuration > Backup & Restore. The Backup & Restore page is displayed.

Select the Configuration History tab. Details of the most recently applied configurations are displayed.
- Select the configuration you wish to restore.
- In the task panel, click Restore the selected Configuration. The Select Configuration Area To Restore dialog is displayed.
- Select the configuration areas you wish to restore and click Restore.
- After the restore has been completed successfully, review your content security policy settings as well as system settings under the Policy and System menus.
- Apply the configuration.
- System > Configuration > Backup & Restore. The Backup & Restore page is displayed.
- In the task panel, click Upload Backed up Configuration. The Select Configuration Area To Restore dialog is displayed.
- Browse and specify the location of the configuration archive file (
.bk). -
Select the configuration areas you wish to restore and click Restore.
The Configuration Restore page indicates the success or failure of the process, and provides a link to the Manage Configurations page. - After the restore has been completed successfully, review your content security policy settings as well as system settings under the Policy and System menus.
- Apply the configuration.

Only one administrator can apply a configuration at any one time. Simultaneous attempts to apply configurations will fail. |
