You can set limits on the amount of processing the Clearswift Gateway performs. You can set the following:

• Maximum recursion depth

  When processing, the Clearswift Gateway decomposes complex data formats into their component parts, to search for hidden threats. The components may themselves need further decomposition, for example if they are archives, or encoded or compressed files. Recursive disassembly is complete when each component is recognized as a raw data type, such as a text file, bitmap, binary file, or application executable file.

  The maximum recursion depth specifies the number of levels of decomposition the Clearswift Gateway performs on complex data formats. If this limit is exceeded, Clearswift Gateway abandons processing. The default is 50.

  We recommend that you do not change this setting from the default value.

• Child node limit

  The maximum number of immediate child nodes in a container which can be processed.

To set processing limits

1. From the System Center Home page, click System Settings. The System Settings page appears.

2. Click Policy Engine Settings.

   The Policy engine Setting page is displayed.

3. In the Advanced panel click Click here to change these settings.
4. Change the advanced settings as required:

• The maximum recursion depth.
• Child node limit. This setting allows you to specify the number of immediate child nodes in a container to be processed. The range is 100,000 to 2,147,483,647; the default is 1000000.

• PDF image extraction, Enabled or Disabled. This option allows you to choose whether images are extracted from PDF documents.

  PDF image extraction is Disabled by default on a Clearswift ICAP Gateway

• Minimum and Maximum image sizes for OCR (pixels). These options specify the smallest or largest images that can be scanned when the Gateway is extracting text to be processed.

  If either the height or width of an image is smaller than the Minimum value, scanning will not be applied. If either the height or width of an image is larger than the Maximum value, scanning will not be applied.

  The Minimum image size for OCR has a default value of 200 (representing a 200 x 200 pixel square). We recommend selecting a meaningful minimum size for images that might contain sensitive information. You cannot select a value lower than 16. The Maximum image size for OCR has a default value, and upper limit, of 8400.

• Languages enabled for OCR. Use this option to specify which languages you want to use when applying OCR. The Gateway supports the detection of a large number of available languages. You can select a language, either dynamically by typing, or from the drop-down menu.

  You can apply OCR to a selection of languages. English, French, Spanish, and German are enabled when you first upgrade or install. We recommend using as few languages as possible to maximize the processing performance and accuracy of text scanning.

5. Click Save.
6. Apply the configuration.
