User Name Lists

A User Name list is a grouping of user names of one or more users to whom you want to apply a common policy. These groupings typically represent users who share a common link within your organization, for example:

• Functional groupings, for example, a sales department or regional office
• Role-oriented groupings, for example, managers
• Relational groupings, for example, company partners

  A Web policy route defines two endpoints, one being associated within your organization, for example, a list of users or machines, and one or more Internet Zones, for example, websites that are associated with gambling.

  Your Gateway starter policy contains has a number of default Web Policy routes from Everyone to various Internet Zones.

  You apply a default action to all traffic that takes a given route and then apply any content rules.

• User Name Lists

  User Name Lists are used by the Gateway as the 'endpoint' of a web policy route between your organization and an Internet Zone. For example, a Web Policy Route might be defined between Managers and Inappropriate Sites.

• Static Lists and LDAP Synchronized Lists

  There are two types of list:

  • Static User Name List

    The entries in a Static User Name List are defined and maintained by a local administrator. can import lists of users and addresses into a Static User Name List from a text file.

  • LDAP Synchronized User Name List

    An LDAP Synchronized List is synchronized with an LDAP server containing your user information. The LDAP User Name List is refreshed automatically by the Gateway once every twenty four hours.

  User Name Lists are used by the Gateway as the 'endpoint' of a web policy route between your organization and an Internet Zone. For example, a Web Policy Route might be defined between Managers and Inappropriate Sites.
