Quota Bypass
When calculating browsing time, any client applications that make URL requests on behalf of the user, such as a task bar plug-in to check for new web mail, will use up the browse time quota for that user. Quota Bypass enables you to exclude particular web requests from the browse time calculations which can be identified by HTTP header or URL.
Add an http header bypass
-
Navigate to Policy > Manage Policy Definition > Web Policy Routes. The Manage Policy Routes page is displayed.
-
Select the Quota Bypass tab. Lists of the quota bypasses you have already configured are displayed.
-
In the HTTP Header Bypass list, click
New. The Add HTTP Header Bypass dialog is displayed.
-
In the Header field, enter an HTTP header you want to bypass. This field is not case-sensitive.
-
In the Value field, enter a matching header value. This field is not case-sensitive. Wildcards are not supported in this field.
The http header bypass is triggered if the Header field contains the substring specified in the Value field. In other words, the Value field can be a substring of the full header value. -
Click Add.
-
Apply the configuration.
Add a bypass by URL
-
Navigate to Policy > Manage Policy Definition > Web Policy Routes. The Manage Policy Routes page is displayed.

RSS feeds will be included in the browsing time quota. This can result in the quota being used without browsing because the RSS reader checks the subscribed feeds regularly for new material. To exclude RSS feeds, you will need to add the URL of each RSS server to the Bypass By URL list.
