Configure Transaction Logging

The Transaction Logging page enables you to configure transaction logging and define how logs are exported from Secure Web Gateway to a user-defined FTP server.

How do I...

• Enable or disable transaction logging?

  1. Navigate to System > Proxy Settings > Transaction Logging. The Transaction Logging page indicates the status as either:

     • Transaction Log is Enabled
     • Transaction Log is Disabled
  2. In the Transaction Log panel, click Click here to change these settings.
  3. Select or clear Enable transaction logging.

  4. If required, select Export the transaction logs every day at and select a time from the drop-down menu. This schedules a daily export to your FTP server.

     It is not possible to export transaction logs manually while an export is already in progress. If you are considering a scheduled export, select a time of day that avoids this possibility.

  5. Click Save.

• Select which fields appear in Web Transaction Logs?

  1. Navigate to System > Proxy Settings > Transaction Logging.

  2. In the Fields panel, click Click here to change these settings.

  3. Use the arrows to move the fields you need from the list of Available items to Current.

     cs(Content-type)	Request content type header value, for example: application/word
     sc(Content-type)	Response content type header value, for example: text/plain
     cs-method	HTTP method, for example GET or POST
     s-dns	Server name (domain)
     cs-uri-stem	URL path, for example: /home
     cs-uri-query	URL query, for example: test=1
     s-port	Server port number
     cs(User-Agent)	User agent header, for example: Mozilla/Firefox
     x-epoch	Unix epoch time (seconds)
     x-local-date	Local date, for example, 2019-08-08
     x-local-time	Local time, for example: 14:59:48
     cs-uri*	URL

     * You cannot move the date, time, or cs-uri fields.

  4. Click Collapse.

     The Current list of fields remains selected when you click Collapse but will not be applied to your policy until you Apply Configuration.

• Test my FTP connection?

  1. Navigate to System > Proxy Settings > Transaction Logging.

  2. In the task panel, click Test FTP settings. The Gateway performs the test and verifies the connection.

     Ensure your FTP server and Port have been configured correctly and that your User name/Password combination is correct.

  3. Click Close.

• Export transaction logs?

  You can schedule the Gateway to export transaction logs automatically each day. You can also export transaction logs manually (provided the daily export is not in progress).

  1. Navigate to System > Proxy Settings > Transaction Logging.

  2. In the task panel, click Export transaction logs now. This starts the export process, displaying a status dialog box.

  3. When complete, click Close.

     The current state of the transaction log export is shown at the top of the page.
