Color

This command allows you to change the color of Web page elements (text, background, borders, etc.). It provides access to a color palette from which you can choose a new color to apply. It also allows you to mix custom colors.

The color is inserted in your edit window as a hexadecimal value.

The color attribute can be associated to the BODY, FONT, BASEFONT, BGCOLOR, BACKGROUND HT or TABLE elements, to name but a few.

  1. In your document, select the element whose color you want to change.
    You can access the color palette from the dialog boxes which have the Color button next to an option.

  2. From the Common tab, click on the Color button.

  3. A preliminary color palette appears. More options are available:

Palette

This list provides you access to a selection of color palettes.

  • 216 colors. This is the default palette. It is also called the Web Palette. It represents those colors which can be interpreted by 256 color screen configurations without much risk that they will be altered.

  • 140 colors. This palette corresponds to the standard Windows palette.

  • 16 colors (W3C). This palette includes those colors defined in the W3C standards.

Custom colors

Displays those colors which you have defined.

Selected Color

Displays information concerning the selected color: an enlarged sample preview, its name and its hexadecimal value.

  • Click on the Add button to add the color shown here to your custom colors.

Provides access to another portion of the dialog box which displays an area that allows you to make your own mixes.

Once the color is applied, the following attribute is added to the tag FONT:

<font color="#FF0000">text</font>

 

To change a color:

  1. In your document, select the hexadecimal value of the color you want to modify.

  2. From the Common tab, click on the Color button.

  3. Make the desired change.

  4. Click on OK.

The color's hexadecimal value is changed.

To customize a color:

  1. In your document, select the text whose color you want to change.

  2. From the Common tab, click on the Color button.

  3. Click on the button More >>> to display another portion of the dialog box.

This section of the Select Color dialog has two areas in the top portion:

The values in the fields in the bottom area change as you do so. If you know them, you can enter the color's values directly in these fields.
