VMware Host Actions
Description: As your VMware environment expands, the manual management of all your hosts inevitably becomes more complex. Requests for new hosts are often duplicates of existing hosts. Making changes to each host becomes more time consuming and error-prone. Unfortunately, writing script to such operations is time consuming as well.
VM (Virtual Machine) action alleviates such issues. It incorporates a variety VM activities that allows you to many common virtual machine management, performance and auditing operations. For instance, you can create a task to the process of modifying a limitless number of hosts, freeing up time for more strategic activities. You can automatically generate lists of running hosts as frequently as required as well as automatically register and unregister hosts based on any event defined. Other activities include the ability to start, resume or suspend a VM, take snapshots, revert to a previous snapshot and much more.
Available Activities
The following table briefly describes the available activities for this action. Click the appropriate link for more details regarding each activity.
Activity |
Description |
---|---|
Creates a clone (copy) of an existing virtual machine. When the cloning operation is complete, the clone is a separate virtual machine. |
Connects to the specified host and creates a session in which to associate subsequent VM steps. |
Creates a snapshot of an existing virtual machine. |
Permanently deletes a virtual machine from your host system. |
Deletes an existing virtual machine snapshot. |
Disconnects a virtual machine connection and ends a previously established session. |
Installs VMWare Tools. |
Gathers all registered virtual machines and populates a dataset with the results. |
Retrieves all running virtual machines and populates a dataset with the results. |
Retrieves all snapshots and populates a dataset with the results. |
Pauses the current session. |
Powers off the specified virtual machine. |
Powers on the specified virtual machine. |
Registers the specified virtual machine. |
Resets the specified virtual machine. |
Reverts to an existing virtual machine snapshot. |
Suspends a virtual machine allowing fast restart via the start command. |
Unpauses a paused virtual machine. |
Unregisters a registered virtual machine from the specified host system. |
