System Requirements

Insight is installed on a server remotely from EFT and requires a connection to a SQL Server database. (Oracle is not supported on Insight at this time.) You can connect Insight to the same database that the EFT Auditing and Reporting module is using, or a separate one.

  • Internet access is required to register Insight. (v1.0.7) If no internet connection is detected, Insight will do a check to see if the serial number is valid (well formed) and if so, it will write an entry to the registry. Upon startup, if Insight detects that registry entry, it will identify itself as activated and continue operating as normal, as if it had been activated online.

  • These hardware configuration applies to a standalone Insight system with both EFT and a database, SQL Server or Oracle in v1.0.7, installed on external servers.

    • Processor: Quad-core, at least 2.5 GHz (4 processors)

    • Memory: 8GB of RAM

    • Disk Storage: 500MB

  • Insight was tested on a virtual machine with 8 GB of memory, 4 CPUs, and a 100GB hard drive with SQL Server Express installed locally. In a production environment, however, it is likely that Insight will log to a remote enterprise version of SQL Server. The Insight database will grow at almost the same rate as the EFT Auditing and Reporting module database.
  • Insight was tested and is supported on each EFT Enterprise v8.0 release, in addition to the following EFT Enterprise versions:

  • 7.1.0.11

    7.2.2

    • EFT 7.2.0, 7.2.1, 7.3.0, and 7.3.1.2 have known limitations that may interfere with your ability to run Insight

    • Insight v1.0.3 and later are supported only with EFT Enterprise version 7.4.4 and later, which use a REST API

    • Insight v1.0.6 was tested and validated with" EFT Enterprise v7.4.7.18, v7.4.9.11, v7.4.10.6, v7.4.11.28, 7.4.13

  • Remote administration - EFT should have remote administration enabled. (Insight uses remote administration to connect to the EFT server it is monitoring.)

  • Require SSL for remote administration in EFT and an SSL certificate is required for the web site’s HTTPS access. If you have a trusted CA signed certificate, please have it ready for the installation process. If you do not have a certificate, a self-signed certificate will be created by the installer. Please note that you may encounter browser warnings unless a trusted certificate has been applied.

  • REST API must be enabled in EFT, and port defined (defaulted to 4450)

  • Run & Edit Reports (Optional permissions) for the EFT admin account

  • EFT Auditing and Reporting module (ARM) - Data used by Insight comes from the ARM database, so this module must be installed, licensed, and enabled.

  • Database for Insight:

    • SQL Server - SQL Server Express 2014 SP1 is bundled with the installer. You can use the included SQL version or select your own instance. Supported SQL Server versions include 2008 R2, 2008 R2 Express, 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2017. You will need the connection information during installation. For SQL Server system requirements, refer to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/sql-server/install/hardware-and-software-requirements-for-installing-sql-server?view=sql-server-2017.

    • (v1.0.7) Oracle database 12c Release 2 or 18c - In version 1.0.7 of EFT Insight, there is no visible indication that this is an Oracle installation. The application (under the covers) looks for the colon (:) between the host name/address and the TCP port (e.g., 192.168.100.70:1571. If the colon is not there, the installer assumes SQL Server is the database.

      • If connecting to an Oracle database, Oracle Data Access Components (ODAC) for Oracle Client needs to be installed before installing EFT Insight

    •  (v1.0.7) Version 18.1.0.0 of Microsoft OLE DB Driver for SQL Server is automatically loaded during installation

  • Windows Server 2012 R2 or later - Insight server components can be installed on Windows Server 2012 R2 or later. (v1.0.7 was tested on 2012, 2016, and 2019)

  • Microsoft .NET 4.5.2 - If .NET 4.5 is not present, the installer will detect the missing component and notify you.

  • IIS v8 - Will be enabled by the installer.

  • Pending Updates - Please make sure there are no pending automatic system updates on the server where you install, as these may interrupt the Insight installation process.
