Releasing a Profile Command

Once a user has completed their necessary tasks using a profile with higher authority, they should switch back to their original profile. This process is called "releasing the profile."

When using Powertech Authority Broker, take care not to release authorities (using LRLSPRF) when you are in the middle of a highly secured application. For example, if you switch to profile "FRED", and then enter an application that requires "FRED's" authority level, do not release profile "FRED" until you are completely out of the application. Releasing higher authority too soon could cause your job to experience authority error messages.

For instance, (using another Powertech product) if you switch to a profile that has authority to Powertech Network Security, enter Network Security and then release while still in Network Security, you will see an error message like the following:

CPF6AC7 received by LNSC907 at *N. (C D I R)

Releasing the Profile

The command to do this, LRLSPRF, is entered at an IBM i command line.

After typing the command, press Enter.

The message "QSECOFR Authority has been released" displays at the bottom of the screen, confirming that the authority has been released.

NOTE: System Users can switch from one profile to another, and then on into another profile, provided that they are not timed swaps. The switch pair setup must be configured for both of the swapped users in advance to allow each swap (e.g. Frank swaps into SYSADM and then, from there, into QSECOFR).
