Secure Email Gateway

Version 6.1.0

June 25, 2025

IMPORTANT:

In November 2024, the major version, 6.0.0, was released. Version 6.x, including the latest 6.1.0 are different from version 5.x, and we strongly recommend that you visit the Installation Guides first to familiarize yourself with the changes.

NOTE:

In this release, we have identified an issue where you might encounter an error, stating “Applying updates failed” when updating via Cockpit > Software Updates. This is due to an issue with the Red Hat Cockpit component.

- To resolve the error, run dnf update from the command line. Future updates via Cockpit should be unaffected.

- For more information, see this knowledge article in the Fortra Support Portal.

Enhancements
  • Support for WebP image format has been added to the "Which Media Types" clause as a detectable file type. This strengthens the detection capability of applicable content rules.

  • There are more options available for handling DKIM signatures, both on inbound and outbound messages.

For inbound messages, DKIM signatures can now be preserved on a per-hosted-domain basis. This allows Microsoft 365 users to enable onward transport of the original DKIM-Signature, so M365 can form its proprietary composite authentication (compauth) value more accurately.

For outbound messages, an option to include or exclude the Authentication-Results header in/from DKIM signatures has been added, providing more robust and reliable DKIM signature verification.

To accommodate these changes, the UI layout and wording has been adjusted in the following locations:

    - Editing options for hosted domain(s) under System > SMTP Settings > Mail Domains and Routing

    - DKIM signing option under Policy > Manage Policy Definition > SpamLogic Settings

    - Preserve DKIM signature option under System > Gateway Settings > Policy Engine Settings

  • Processing of M365 messages has been adjusted to improve spam checks on them.

  • Under System > SMTP Settings > Advanced Settings > Timeouts, the maximum period a message can be queued before being non-delivered has been increased from 240 to 720 hours.

  • SwissSign, the supported Trust Center for Secure Email Gateway, has recently introduced some changes to its Gold certificates. We recommend that you contact SwissSign for more information. To accommodate these changes, new fields: Given Name, Surname and Pseudonym, are added to the Gateway's web UI, under System > Encryption > Certificate Store, as well as System > Encryption > Trust Center Configuration.

Fixes
  • Resolved an issue where multiple broken updates by Sophos anti-virus caused the Sophos and engine services to fail.

  • Resolved an issue where Sophos updates failed. Its AV definitions can now be reset by running the script (reset_sophos.sh script).

  • Under System >Version & License > Installed Version & Upgrades > Current Version, messages have been adjusted, so reboot is no longer required when there are no packages available.

  • Resolved an issue with the Sanitize Document Content and Sanitize Message content rules, where images in content became distorted after being processed.

  • Resolved an issue where scanning or redacting CSV, SSV or TSV files did not work as intended. These file types have now been added as the detectable file types of the Detect media types content rule.

  • Adjusted the handling of JSP script files to ensure the detection of malicious JSP files.

  • Resolved an issue where using a trusted certificate that includes SANs in the PMM Portal Settings caused the UI to redirect endlessly.

  • Resolved an issue where PMM digest messages failed to fetch data from the peered Gateway(s). Digest messages now contain links for all messages withheld between the peers.

  • Resolved an issue in PMM full mode where adding a shared mailbox from the Other Mailboxes tab in the web UI failed with a status code 404.

  • Resolved an issue where Rspamd behind proxy was trying to access https://maps.rspamd.com, causing the connection error.

  • Resolved an issue where DNS failed to resolve special domain names (e.g. .test), causing joining of domains with such names to fail.

Secure Exchange Gateway

Version 6.1.0

June 25, 2025

IMPORTANT:
  • In version 6.1.0, there are functionalities and procedures which are different from version 5.x. We strongly recommend that you visit the Installation Guides first to familiarize yourself with these changes.

  • In Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 9, as per Red Hat Documentation, the default system-wide cryptographic policy level offers secure settings for current threat models. It allows the TLS 1.2 and TLS 1.3 protocols, as well as the IKEv2 and SSH2 protocols. The RSA keys and Diffie-Hellman parameters are accepted if they are at least 2048 bits long. This also means that certificates which use the SHA1 as TLS hash, signature, and algorithm are not accepted.

  • TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 encryption protocols are deprecated and disabled by default.

  • Product’s platform, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), has been updated from version 7.9 to version 9.4.

  • The RHEL 9 administrative interface, Cockpit, has been updated, including improved SELinux support and various user interface fixes.

  • STIG compliance has been enhanced, using the latest RHEL 9 DISA profiles.

  • Enhancements have been made to improve encryption, certificate management and TLS compatibility for secure connections.

  • Support has been added to reduce false positives when detecting Canadian Social Insurance Numbers (SIN), by adopting a validation using the Luhn algorithm.

  • Java has been upgraded to version 21, for improved compatibility and performance.

  • Support for WebP image format has been added to the "Which Media Types" clause as a detectable file type. This strengthens the detection capability of applicable content rules.

Fixes
  • A critical vulnerability found in the previous release (CVE-2023-26136) has been fixed through the upgrade of Cockpit to a later version, including its dependent libraries.

  • Resolved a long-standing issue, requiring a restart of NetworkManager after configuring an SNMP server in Cockpit.

  • Resolved an issue where updates to FileZilla version 1.8.2 disrupted the FTP backup process for the product.

  • Resolved a license validation issue on the Japanese systems.

  • Resolved a crash in the DCI (Deep Content Inspection) Engine caused by processing PDF files that contain circular references in their outline.

  • Corrected the DCI Engine's handling of Text Views in XML DFC, which caused the failure in detecting the "Social Security number" text entities in XML document search.

  • Resolved an issue where the proxy was not working correctly with dnf when set via Cockpit.

  • Resolved an issue where applying configuration failed after setting up SMTP authentication and editing a policy.

  • Resolved an issue where the web user interface (UI) failed to start if Log Export has been enabled on the Gateway.

  • Resolved an issue where adding or editing User Defined Entities for Lexical Expressions was not possible.

  • The UI performance has been improved and it now operates faster.

  • Resolved an issue with the Sanitize Document Content content rule, where images in content became distorted after being processed.

  • Resolved an issue where scanning or redacting CSV, SSV or TSV files did not work as intended. These file types have now been added as the detectable file types of the Detect media types content rule.

  • Adjusted the handling of JSP script files to ensure the detection of malicious JSP files.

  • Resolved an issue where PowerHA web interface actions could get stuck in the submitted state in instances where either the PowerHA Job Description or SBMJOB command defaults are changed.

  • Resolved an issue with FlashCopy in Power Virtual Server when combined with Geographic mirroring where certain operations could fail with HAE012E: copy description not valid for session.

  • Resolved an issue in environments with Geographic Mirroring and FlashCopy where performing an SVC or PVS FlashCopy off the target of a geographically mirrored ASP could fail with HAE2038: Command does not support object.

  • Added ability to perform session actions including suspend, resume, detach and reattach for Power Virtual Server sessions within the switchable environments page of the PowerHA web interface.

  • During PTF and product installation, PowerHA will no longer modify the authority settings for IBM i Navigator IFS directories. Previously, PowerHA PTF and product installations would adjust the ownership and authority of these directories to QLWISVR, which is incompatible with the latest Navigator PTFs. This incompatibility caused the Navigator to fail to start after either installing PowerHA or applying PowerHA PTFs.

NOTE: PTF updates require one or more associated language PTFs. To determine if additional languages you have installed in your environment require a requisite MRI PTF, consult the table of language PTFs in the release cover letter for SJ05635.

DCS for Data at Rest (DaR)

June 17, 2025

IMPORTANT:

This release of DCS for DaR only supports TCPG Configuration files that are published in the cloud or customer-hosted version of DCS Policy Manager. For more information on how to import and export Configuration files and author new Configurations, see the DCS Policy Manager documentation.

If you are still using the DCS Administration Console with DCS for Windows, you must install DCS

for DaR 5.0 or an earlier version.

Fixes
  • Fixed issue with SharePoint content scans not scanning all SharePoint document libraries.
  • Fixed issue with SharePoint content scans not working as expected for SharePoint Server 2016 sites.

DCS One (On-premises)

Considerations
Browser Latest version of one of the following browsers for Outlook Online and Office Online (Word/Excel/PowerPoint) for Windows:
  • Google Chrome

  • Microsoft Edge

  • Mozilla Firefox

NOTE: Apple Safari is not supported for Outlook Online and Office Online.
Microsoft Outlook Desktop In Outlook Desktop, users can classify messages in New Outlook for Windows.
NOTE:

Users cannot classify messages in:

  • Classic Outlook for Windows

  • Classic Outlook for Mac

  • New Outlook for Mac

DCS Policy Manager (On-premises)

Version 5.1

June 2, 2025

New Features
  • A tenant domain is no longer required during customer onboarding, but this information must then be provided if the installer does not detect this information in the Fortra-provided license file.

  • Added option to encrypt DCS Policy Manager data that is written to a database.

  • You can now configure Schemas, Policies, and Configurations and publish a TCPG file for DCS for Data at Rest (DaR) in the Policy Manager. Read the following for more details:

    • If you are transitioning from the Administration Console, you need a new license to access the Policy Manager site. You can import a TCPG file that you published in the Administration Console but review the Policy Manager documentation for more information on known issues.

    • Policy Manager supports new “Add SharePoint managed metadata” and “Apply date offset” actions for DCS for DaR that are not available in the Administration Console.

    • Policy Manager supports a “Set classification – scans” action. The default parameter values in Policy Manager match the default Administration Console values for the DCS for DaR “Set Classification” action.

  • You can now configure Schemas, Policies, and Configurations and publish a Configuration for the customer-hosted DCS One (On-premises) in the Policy Manager. Read the following for more details:

    • DCS Services Layer (On-premises) deployment is required.

    • If you want to scan sensitive content, DCS One (On-premises) supports the on-premises Data Detection Engine Custom Condition that requires deployment of a Data Detection Engine Server. Only DCS One (Cloud), which is configured in DCS Policy Manager (Cloud), supports the cloud version of the Data Detection Engine Custom Condition.

  • For DCS for Windows and DCS for DaR licensed users:

    • Added Predefined Matches that can be used in Content Validation Profiles. The resources are the same as the Library Matches in the Administration Console, but the names have been changed to provide more clarity on their use. Editing the "Replacement text" for Predefined Matches creates a copy in the Custom Matches library. You can configure additional parameters after creating a copy.

    • Added Smart Regular Expression Custom Condition. This new DCS Policy Manager Custom Condition functions similar to the Titus.SmartRegex.Extensibility.SmartRegexCustomCondition Dynamic Property in the DCS Administration Console. Key differences include:

      • You can enter a custom JSON in DCS Policy Manager instead of needing to upload a custom JSON file.

      • The “Password” parameter is not supported in DCS Policy Manager.

    • Added new CAD adapter information in published TCPG files.

    • Added support for publishing Microsoft Entra ID (formerly known as Microsoft Azure Active Directory) user groups data in TCPG files.

  • For DCS for Windows licensed users:

    • Added new “Show Classification Information Bar Menu Text” App Setting (under Office Add-in Settings).

    • Added new “Number of Favorites to Show in the Ribbon” App Setting (under Favorites).

    • Added PowerPoint Windows support for the “Bookmark prefix” parameter of the “Apply advanced header and footer” action.

    • Removed “Use Microsoft Entra” and “Use Application Certificate to Authenticate” Microsoft Entra App Settings (under DCS System Settings).

Enhancements
  • Improved TCPG file importing capabilities to include:

    • Conditions that include Schema metadata properties

    • Content Validation Profiles (imported as Content Scans in the Policy Manager)

    • RunContentValidation Dynamic Properties (imported as Run Content Scans Custom Condition in the Policy Manager)

    • Schema Views include enabled Schema Fields as configured in the Administration Console.

    • The Administration Console “Required” Schema Fields setting is the same as the Policy Manager “Force selection” Schema Fields setting. The configured data can be migrated from the Administration Console to Policy Manager.

  • Updated all File event properties to be multivalued in Policy Manager code. Administration Console policy configurations require administrators to click a "Repeat Rule" checkbox for certain message and file properties. In the Policy Manager, multivalued event properties show "All", "None of", "One of", or "Which" in the condition builder.

  • Enhanced audit logs to include more action details for Policies.

  • Updated from .NET 6.0 to .NET 8.0.

  • Improved installer user experience as follows:

    • Certificate options are filtered to ensure the administrator installing the product selects the correct type of certificate.

    • The machine's Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) is automatically populated in the host name field.

    • After the installation is complete, you can click a "Launch DCS Console" hyperlink to quickly access the DCS Console website, which includes DCS Policy Manager.

Fixes
  • Fixed Target Group dropdown on the Publish Configurations page to display all user groups in an organization's Microsoft Active Directory domain.

DCS Services Layer
