Automate

Version 25.1.0

August 4, 2025

IMPORTANT:
  • Before installing Automate 25.1.0, confirm your version of Windows is compatible with .NET Framework 4.8 and .NET 8.0.
  • Before installing Automate Desktop 25.1.0, confirm your version of Windows is compatible with .NET Framework 4.8. See .NET Framework System Requirements for more information.
  • As of version 11.7.1, Automate is only available as a 64-bit installer. However, Agents can still be installed on both 32-bit and 64-bit platforms.

New Features
  • Agent (Automate only)
    • This release includes a new version of the agent. The Automate installer installs this new agent as well as the legacy agent. The new agent is the default agent, and it is started automatically. The legacy agent is available, but it does not start by default.
Enhancements
  • Significantly improved the Loop File Contents activity to handle large files more efficiently, addressing both performance bottlenecks and a memory leak issue.

  • Selection of Evaluate Immediately is disabled on SNMP, Database, Sharepoint, and Email Triggers since they currently always return false. This might be implemented for some of the triggers at a later date if the evaluation can be performed.

  • Updated the triggers to remove support for Exchange WebDAV 2007.

  • Removed Twitter Action from Automate & Automate Desktop due to security reasons.

  • Updated the Workflow Wizard to show that the logon properties are not inheriting from global settings and provide an option to change this option.

  • Added the ExtractFilePathWithDrive function to extract the full file path, including the drive letter, from both local and network paths.

  • Enhanced HTML element locator to auto-detect Path within the document hierarchy respecting not only id and index of a floating frame, but also name. Also enhanced web browser action to support new annotation format at runtime side-by-side with the existing format. This allows Automate users to have better support of web browser automation in web pages with nested frames.

Fixes
  • Resolved an issue in the FTP Download action where the Preserve Date/Time option does not correctly retain the original timestamp. The timestamp is now properly preserved when downloading files using FTP.

  • Fixed validation logic for Agent Notifications properties. Users can now clear the Notification on agent connect and Notification on agent disconnect check boxes and delete the Distribution List or Custom Message fields without triggering validation errors.

  • Updated Base64 encoding logic to match standard implementations by directly encoding raw binary data, ensuring compatibility with external tools. To maintain backward compatibility, a new Enable Legacy Base64 Decoding check box option has been added (cleared by default) to allow decoding of files encoded with older Automate versions.

  • Resolved the defect where an unexpected file already exists dialog prompt appears when running certain Excel macros in Automate, causing tasks to halt and require manual intervention.

  • Fixed a critical issue where the Message Dialog action in Automate inadvertently blocks keyboard input to a Connect to Terminal action

  • Updated CSV handling in Dataset actions to retain special characters, including the euro (€) symbol, during import and export.

  • Resolved an issue that caused the Task Builder to freeze and close when users attempt to use variables or select multiple ciphers in the Key Exchange Cipher field for SFTP connections. This update resolves this instability and ensures consistent variable and multi-select functionality across all cipher fields.

  • Added the username field to AutoDiscover to allow access to shared email addresses.

  • Enhanced limited retry logic for sending out agent notifications when operations fail. Now Automate ignores emails that cannot be sent after 2 attempts and information log is written with failure details.

  • Added standard 27218 Session not found and 7001 A session with that name already exists error codes to all actions that support session but miss error codes in the Error causes page.

  • Resolved an issue where %AMCurrentTask.Name% failed to display the correct task name when multiple tasks were triggered at the same time in a workflow.

  • Updated Queued tasks in Task Priority to wait indefinitely rather than timing out.

  • Fixed links in the Quick Reference sections of the Automate User Guide.

  • Fixed migration issue with losing custom Holidays information when upgrading from previous versions

  • Added design time validation for creating workflow variable with names over 128 characters.

  • Fixed issue where attachments with .eml extension are not displayed inside the dataset and are not downloaded.

  • Fixed issue with GZIP decompression.

  • This update introduces changes to how Active Directory authenticated usernames are handled in Automate. Upon system startup, old username formats (containing domain\username or username@domain) are automatically converted to the new format, with the domain moved to the Domain field. Additionally, new validation rules enforce that Active Directory usernames cannot contain @ or \, and the Domain field must not be blank.

  • Fixed memory leak when an HTTP activity is used inside loop statement.

  • (PREDEFINED SQL CONNECTIONS) - SQL connection data is now decrypted properly and populated in the Build Connection screen

  • After editing a user in SMC, the user folder is not renamed and does not include (1) in the end.

  • Added version 24 node to Azure redirect.

  • Fixed issue related to set values inside the frames

  • CSV to dataset activity now processes quoted headers properly and do not add extra return carriages to the last column of data

  • Added enhanced notations for frame paths to support frame selection by ID and name.

  • Enhanced implementation of the Disable windows foreground timeout feature to work on any machine and operation system, including physical Windows 11 machines.

  • Added the ExtractFilePathWithDrive function to extract the full file path, including the drive letter, from both local and network paths.

  • Fixed issue when file resources are not properly cleaned up in XML action.

  • Enhanced the %ExtractFilePath() function to properly handle network paths, ensuring it correctly extracts the directory name for network-based file paths.

  • Modified the CSV action to ensure correct conversion of truncated SQL DATE data types. The action now omits the time portion when exporting to CSV format.

Network DLP Appliance

Version: 13.0

August, 2025

New Features
  • This release includes an early preview of the upcoming Fortra-branded Appliance Management Console user interface. A new "Preview New UI" button has been added to the top of the existing console, allowing users to open a new window and explore the rebranded interface.

NOTE: The preview is intended for visual reference and design feedback. It does not represent final functionality or content. Access to the preview requires the installation of a URL appliance.

This preview represents a significant step towards delivering a refreshed and more intuitive user experience, with continued enhancements planned for future releases.

Agent for Windows

Version: 10.0.0

August, 2025

New Features
  • This release includes enhanced support for the Microsoft New Outlook Add-In by introducing new configuration parameters that provide greater control and flexibility over email event handling. The key configuration parameters are:

    1. outlookAddinEnable (True / False)

      • When set to True, the system will process the `SendMail` event and generate a DGMC LFR event based on predefined rules.

      • When set to False, the `SendMail` event will not be processed, and no DGMC LFR event will be generated.

    1. onOutlookAddinTimeoutActionAllow (True / False)

      • When set to True, if the Add-In does not receive a response within the timeout period (takes approximately 5 minutes for Windows), the email will be allowed and a DGMC LFR event marked as "Allow" will be generated. The prompt will automatically close, if the event triggers a prompt and timesout.

      • When set to False, If the Add-In does not receive a response within the timeout period, the email will be blocked, and a DGMC LFR event marked as "Blocked" will be generated. The prompt will automatically close, if the event triggers a prompt and timesout. File details for the SendMail event will be shown as “User Decision.”

The onOutlookAddinTimeoutActionAllow parameter offers better handling of Outlook Add-In behavior during timeouts to ensure improved reliability and user experience.

  • This release introduces Fast Path Filtering version 1 through an update to the dirctrl.dat configuration file. The new FASTPATH section enables the endpoint agent to bypass file and directory operations, specifically excluding irrelevant or known safe system and temporary files from security scans. This targeted filtering reduces system overhead, minimizes unnecessary processing, and improves the overall security scanning efficiency. Additional improvements to Fast Path Filtering are planned in upcoming releases. For more information on Resource File Changes, please refer to the full version of Digital Guardian Agent for Windows 10.0.0 Release Notes available on the Fortra Support Portal.

  • The Digital Guardian Agent 10.0 release includes the DG Microsoft New Outlook Add-in version 6.0, which introduces support for SendMail Event using ItemSend approach. This enhancement enables prompts (which were not recommended when using SmartAlerts) to be shown, offering a more consistent and reliable user experience. ItemSend improves the accuracy of tracking email send actions and ensures that prompts display effectively before the email is sent.

For more information, refer to Digital Guardian Microsoft New Outlook Add-in in Digital Guardian Agent version 6.0. release notes.

Fixes
  • Resolved an issue in DGAgent 9.3.0.0013 where mstsc.exe (Microsoft Terminal Services Client) crashed after clicking the Connect button when starting a session.

  • Resolved an issue where OneNote sync would hang after a recent Office 365 update. The issue was caused by the inability to disable monitoring of WinINet activities.

  • Resolved an issue where MpDefenderCoreService.exe failed to start due to a conflict with DGAgent.

  • Resolved an issue where excessive MIP requests from the agent caused service outages.

  • Resolved an issue where unnecessary file activity was logged for Office-related cache files, despite a prior fix intended to prevent this.
