Greylisting parameters

The Advanced Greylisting Settings enable you to specify the time that greylisted deliveries are delayed, how long greylist entries are kept, and how long information about good senders is kept. See Greylisting for more information.

Changing these settings without good reason can adversely affect spam detection rates. You should normally only perform these actions on the advice of your normal support provider.

Configure Greylist settings

  1. Navigate to Policy > Manage Policy Definition > SpamLogic Settings. The SpamLogic Settings page is displayed.

  2. Select the Parameters tab.

  3. In the Greylisting panel, click Click here to change these settings.

  4. Adjust the following settings as required:

    • Delay initial deliveries for: When a message is received from an unknown sender, the Gateway delays the message by sending the originating server a temporary rejection and requesting that the message be retried after the specified time.

    • Expire grey listed entries after: When a message from an unknown sender is temporarily rejected, it will be accepted if it is retried within the specified time period.

    • Expire good entries after: If a greylisted sender successfully retries a message, information about that sender is held for the specified time period. Subsequent messages from the same sender are accepted without being greylisted. Every time a message is received from the sender this timer is reset.

If no messages are received from the sender for longer than the specified time period, messages from the sender are once again greylisted.

  5. Click Save.

If you change any configuration or policy settings, you must Apply Configuration for the new settings to take effect. You can do this either from the Changes Made panel, or System > ConfigurationApply Configuration. See Apply new configuration for more information.

If you use Peer Gateways (i.e. when multiple Gateways are peered), any configuration changes from a local Gateway can then be applied to all the peers at the same time. See Configure Peer Gateways for more information.
