Configure Digest Messages page

You can determine the following aspects of the format of the PMM message digest.

Tell me about...

Define or modify the digest format

  1. Navigate to System > PMM Settings > Digest Messages. The Digest Messages page is displayed.
  2. Move the mouse pointer over the Digest Template area and click Click here to change these settings.
  3. By default, the digest will appear to have been sent from the Gateway administrator email address. To use a different email address, enter the required email address in the From box.
  4. Supply a Subject for the digest. This will appear as the message subject for all digests. Note that in a mixed-language environment you should ensure this text is suitable for all your users.
  5. If required, enter some text to appear at the top of the message digest, such as a brief instruction note. Note that in a mixed-language environment you should ensure this text is suitable for all your users.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Click Preview a PMM Message Digest in the task panel to view an example digest including the Sender, From, Subject, and initial text you have specified.

The contents of Sender and From are often the same, but can differ to a degree - for example, when a message has been sent from a mailing list, or has been redirected. They can also differ if either has been faked by a spammer. By comparing them in context, users can reach better-informed trust decisions.

    Examples:

    Sender From Comments Trusted
bounce@digimags.co.uk "Digimags" <craig@digimags.net> Digimags is present in both Sender and From Yes
480-lwa-970.0.82030@em-sj-77.mktomail.com <480-lwa-970.0.82030@em-sj-77.mktomail.com> Thales <Information@thalesesecurity.com> Marketo is a well-known service for sending business email Yes
adahdhadhk@gmail.com CEO <CEO@Mycompany.com> Sender claims to be Gmail, but From appears to be CEO No
  8. To modify any of your format settings, repeat from step 3.
If you change any configuration or policy settings, you must Apply Configuration for the new settings to take effect. You can do this either from the Changes Made panel, or System > ConfigurationApply Configuration. See Apply new configuration for more information. If you use Peer Gateways (i.e. when multiple Gateways are peered), any configuration changes from a local Gateway can then be applied to all the peers at the same time. See Configure Peer Gateways for more information.

Configure PMM Service Settings

As part of configuring PMM you need to:

Configure PMM service parameters

  1. Navigate to System > PMM Settings > Digest Messages. The Digest Messages page is displayed.
  2. Move the mouse pointer over the Settings area and click Click here to change these settings.
  3. Edit the settings as required to specify your PMM service parameters:

    • Digest submission rate: Determines the rate at which Gateway submits digest emails to the mail server for delivery. The value must be between 50 and 1,000 digests per minute. If you have a large PMM community and you find that the issuing of the digests is slowing your mail delivery system, you may want to reduce the submission rate.
    • Expire message digests: If you select the check box for this setting, message digests will expire after the specified number of days. The value must be between 1 and 365 days. Once a digest has expired, users will be unable to manage their PMM messages using that digest. A dialog prompts the user to use a more recent digest.
  4. Click Save.

Define the digest schedule

  1. Navigate to System > PMM Settings > Digest Messages. The Digest Messages page is displayed.
  2. Move the mouse pointer over the Digest Schedule area and click Click here to change these settings.

The schedule chart defines when Gateway issues message digests to users. The icons indicate whether Gateway issues a digest to all users with held messages, or only to those users with new held messages since they were last sent a digest:

Full distribution: Issue a digest to all users with messages held for personal message management.

Partial distribution: Issue a digest only to those users with new messages held for personal message management since they were last sent a digest.

  3. To schedule a digest for a particular time period, click that period on the chart. Click repeatedly on the same period to cycle through the options for a full distribution, partial distribution, or no digest. Typically you might want to schedule a full distribution digest at the beginning of each day, and a partial distribution digest later in the day.
  4. When you have finished defining your schedule, click Save.

When you have finished modifying your PMM settings you must apply the configuration for any changes to take effect. If you use Peer Gateways (i.e. when multiple Gateways are peered), any configuration changes from a local Gateway can then be applied to all the peers at the same time. See Configure Peer Gateways for more information.

The PMM Digest History on the PMM Settings page includes a table that shows when the PMM system last issued full distribution and partial distribution digests, and how many of each digest it issued.
