SMTP Welcome Message

You can define the welcome message string Secure Email Gateway responds with when an SMTP client connects to it.

Specify the SMTP welcome message

  1. Navigate to System > SMTP Settings > General Settings. The General Settings page is displayed.
  2. The SMTP Welcome Message area displays the current welcome message.

NOTE: Postfix always inserts "ESMTP" as the second word of the welcome message, to indicate that it supports the ESMTP protocol. For example, the default message "SMTP Relay" will appear as "SMTP ESMTP Relay".

  3. Move the mouse pointer over the SMTP Welcome Message area and click Click here to change these settings.
  4. Enter the required welcome message.
  5. Click Save.
For security reasons the default welcome message "SMTP Relay" does not include any significant information. Be aware that if you supply information about your site in the welcome message, hackers may use this information against you.
If you use Peer Gateways (i.e. when multiple Gateways are peered), any configuration changes from a local Gateway can then be applied to all the peers at the same time. See Configure Peer Gateways for more information. If you change any configuration or policy settings, you must Apply Configuration for the new settings to take effect. You can do this either from the Changes Made panel, or System > ConfigurationApply Configuration. See Apply new configuration for more information.
