Configure Transaction Logging

The Transaction Logging page enables you to configure transaction logging and define how logs are exported from Secure Email Gateway to a user-defined FTP server.

Management of the Transaction Logs on the FTP site is the responsibility of the Administrator.

How do I...

• Enable or disable transaction logging?

  1. Navigate to System > SMTP Settings > Transaction Logging. The Transaction Logging page indicates the status as either:

     • Transaction Log is Enabled
     • Transaction Log is Disabled
  2. In the Transaction Log panel, click Click here to change these settings.
  3. Select or clear Enable transaction logging.

  4. If required, select Export the transaction logs every day at and select a time from the drop-down menu. This schedules a daily export to your FTP server.

     It is not possible to export transaction logs manually while an export is already in progress. If you are considering a scheduled export, select a time of day that avoids this possibility.

  5. Click Save.

• Test my FTP connection?

  1. Navigate to System > SMTP Settings > Transaction Logging.

  2. In the task panel, click Test FTP settings. The Gateway performs the test and verifies the connection.

     Ensure your FTP server and Port have been configured correctly and that your User name/Password combination is correct.

  3. Click Close.

• Export transaction logs?

  You can schedule the Gateway to export transaction logs automatically each day. You can also export transaction logs manually (provided the daily export is not in progress).

  1. Navigate to System > SMTP Settings > Transaction Logging.

  2. In the task panel, click Export transaction logs now. This starts the export process, displaying a status dialog box.

  3. When complete, click Close.

     The current state of the transaction log export is shown at the top of the page.

If you change any configuration or policy settings, you must Apply Configuration for the new settings to take effect. You can do this either from the Changes Made panel, or System > Configuration > Apply Configuration. See Apply new configuration for more information. If you use Peer Gateways (i.e. when multiple Gateways are peered), any configuration changes from a local Gateway can then be applied to all the peers at the same time.
