Proxy Diagnostic Ports
You use the Proxy Diagnostic Ports settings to configure your Secure Web Gateway to generate diagnostic messages. You would normally use this feature on the advice of the Clearswift Support to resolve more complex proxy issues.
Proxy diagnostics generate a large amount of data and requires considerable system resources. Make sure that you disable it when it is not being used. |
Using Proxy Diagnostic Ports is a three stage process:

Enable the Proxy Diagnostic Port.

From the Home page, click System > Proxy Settings > Proxy Monitoring.
The Proxy Monitoring page is displayed.
- Select the Diagnostics Ports tab.
- Click Click here to change these settings.
- Check Enable the HTTP Diagnostic Port to listen on and enter the diagnostic port number (Typically, 8081).

Configure the browser to use the port.

The following steps apply to Internet Explorer. These might be different if you are using an alternative browser. - From your browser, click Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings.
- Check Use a Proxy Server for your LAN, enter the port number used when setting the diagnostic port, and click OK.
- Clear the browser cache and browse to the URL you want to troubleshoot.

Examine the diagnostics.

From the Home page, click System > Proxy Settings > Proxy Monitoring.
The Proxy Monitoring page is displayed.

Select from the following options in the What would you like to do? panel on the left:
- View the Proxy logs and then select Web Proxy Events from Available Logs. This displays detailed proxy diagnostic logging.
- View the proxy diagnostics. This option only appears if you have enabled the proxy diagnostic port. It displays the request and response headers logged by the proxy.
- View the engine diagnostics. This option only appears if you have enabled the proxy diagnostic port. It displays the request and detailed analysis that the policy engine generates.
To download or email the proxy and engine diagnostic data click Download the diagnostic data or Mail the diagnostic data. These options are also located in the What would you like to do? panel on the left of the Proxy Monitoring Page.
To purge the database of the proxy and engine diagnostic data, click Purge the diagnostic data in the What would you like to do? panel.
Note that these options only appear if you have enabled the diagnostic port and some diagnostic information has been collected.
