FTP Information
The following types of information are needed in order for CuteSITE Builder to publish your site in one step. (You would also need them if you were posting your site yourself, so Web hosting companies provide them via email when you first sign up.)
FTP Host Address may also be Host FTP Address or IP Address. It's the name of the server where you (or CuteSITE Builder) will log in, in order to publish. Example: ftp.hostingco.com.
FTP Directory is used by some hosts, who require you to change to a different directory after logging in. If your host requires this, enter that directory's name here. Example: staging. Many hosts automatically move you to a specific directory as soon as you log in. If your host's email does not mention a directory, leave this space blank.
Important: CuteSITE Builder will not create a new directory if you type something here. The directory must already be present on your FTP server. If you wish to create a remote directory you must do so on the Host Setup tab or you can use an FTP client such as CuteFTP available from .
FTP User Name is the name by which your hosting company knows you. It can be in any form. Examples: tsmith, Champion Tools. Reputable hosts check your user name and password to ensure the security of your site's files.
If you do not remember this FTP information, or if you do not know which information is required, contact your Web hosting company for clarification. Even if your FTP server requires a user name and password, you can still leave the FTP User Name and FTP Password boxes blank. If you do this, you will be prompted for your user name and password each time you publish. Here there is a tradeoff between security and convenience.
Passive Mode Check Box: One-Click Publishing allows you to choose between Port and Passive modes for file transfers. The Passive mode check box is checked by default. This is best for getting through firewalls. If you are not behind a firewall, and having trouble connecting to the FTP server, try un-checking the Passive mode box.
