FTP Password
This is your password for your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or Web hosting company. If you are publishing to your ISP it is most likely the same password you use for your dial up connection or email account.
FTP information is required in order for CuteSITE Builder to publish your site in one step. Web hosting companies provide this information via email when you first sign up, and protect your site access with a secret password. We recommend that you let CuteSITE Builder store this password on your computer, so you do not have to remember it each time you publish.
FTP Password is the private code your host uses to make sure you have the authority to update your site. Many hosts let you change the password occasionally for greater privacy. (If you do this, remember to return to the Web Site Information page and change the saved password.)
Confirm Password is a space where you must type the password a second time. The password will not be recorded until you enter it twice. Since passwords never display onscreen, if you mistype one, you would not know, and might be prevented from accessing your site.
If you do not remember your password, contact your Web hosting company. Reputable hosts do not give out passwords over the phone. However, you can ask for the correct password to be emailed to you. In most cases the hosting company support group can only email a password directly to the email address of the account's owner, to preserve the site's security.
If your FTP server requires a user name and password, you can still leave the FTP User Name and FTP Password boxes blank. If you do this, you will be prompted for your user name and password each time you publish. Here there is a tradeoff between security and convenience.
If your computer is in a secure office or home, it is usually safe to let CuteSITE Builder save your password. Once your password is saved, you can update your site from your own computer without having to enter the password each time. The only reason to keep your password secret is if you are concerned that someone might use your computer to update your site inappropriately.
