Create a field link

A field link uses information from a page’s Page Properties dialog box as the text for a link to the page.

1. In the page area, right-click where you want the link to appear and choose Create Link Using.

2. Choose one of the following fields:

• Title Field: Shows the page’s title as the link.

• Title & Summary Fields: Shows the page’s title as the link, and shows the page’s summary.

• Short Title Field: Shows the page’s short title as the link.

• Short Title & Summary Fields: Shows the page’s short title as the link, and shows the page’s summary.

• Other Fields: Displays a dialog box from which you can select one among the nine possible fields to use for the link.

The mouse pointer turns into the link shape.

3. In the map, click the page you want to link to. If you are displaying the outline, you can also click the page title in the outline area to create a link to the page.

• You can also start creating a field link by placing the cursor where you want the link to appear and then either clicking the icon on the the Standard toolbar or choosing Link > Create Link Using or right-clicking the page in the map to which you want to link and choose Link to this Page Using.

• CuteSITE Builder uses a page’s field information as it appears in the page’s Page Properties dialog box. Any changes to the fields in the Page Properties box are automatically reflected in all links that use that information.

• Similarly, if you edit the link, the changes are automatically updated in the linked page’s Page Properties box, and in all other field links and inserted fields in the file that use the information.

• You can use a page’s fields as links even if you have not yet entered information for them in the page’s Properties dialog box. To indicate the field link, CuteSITE Builder inserts placeholder text; for example, “—Type Title Here —”. If you edit this placeholder text, the changes you make will also appear in the page’s Properties dialog box, as well as in any other field links or inserted fields on other pages that use the field information.

• You can also create an automatically updated field reference, by placing one page's field(s) onto another page.

• To test the link, click the link.

• You cannot create a field link to the current page; clicking on such a link would have no effect. If you attempt to do this, the field is inserted, but it does not become a link.

• You can also create a basic link using some of the page’s content as the link and create an automatic list of links to all pages in a sequence.
