Associate user text with page layout areas
As part of modifying existing page layouts or creating new page layouts for a Web design, you can associate different sections of the page area in each layout with specific kinds of user text. Doing this can ensure that when users switch page layouts or Web designs any content the users have already entered will continue to appear in an appropriate border.
The easiest place to make these changes is in the Page Layout Editor.
1. Right-click in the page and choose Properties > Page.
2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. For Prompt Text, enter prompts for any user-supplied information that you expect will be consistent between your page layouts.
The prompt text will appear in the page when the user applies the page layout, but will disappear as the user begins to type in the area.
Note that in the CuteSITE Builder designs, slot 1 in this list is reserved for primary sidebar information, slot 2 for the page title, and slot 3 for secondary sidebar information. If you expect users to switch between your design and the CuteSITE Builder designs, you should follow this model.
4. Under Arrangement of User Text, use the page area figure to associate the slot numbers with the borders that will be displayed in this page layout.
For example, if you typed Type sidebar information in slot 1 under Prompt Text, and want sidebar information to appear in the right border in this page layout, click the arrow in the right border and choose User Text 1.
If the page layout you are designing already contains static text, the static text will also move as you adjust the user text areas using the Page Properties dialog box.
5. Click OK to save the changes.
6. When you have finished adjusting the layout, click Finished.
7. Apply the layout to a new page to check your work.
Notes
You can also access Page Properties by choosing Edit > Properties > Page. Changes you make on a page (as opposed to on a page layout) affect only that page, unless you later choose Format > Define New Page Layout to use that page as a model.
Think of user text areas as containers that you can move around depending on the display of borders in the current layout. For example, suppose you have two page layouts, one of which displays only a left border and one only a right border. If you associate sidebar information with the left border in the first layout, and the right border in the second layout, CuteSITE Builder will automatically move any information the user has entered in the left border to the right border if the user switches between these layouts, maintaining the design integrity of each layout.
The prompt text you enter is important to the success of the user text area feature with users of your page layouts. Be sure your prompt text is descriptive and consistent.
In order to ensure compatibility, you should enter the same prompt text in the same slots under Prompt Text for each page layout within a document design, and then use the figure under Arrangement of User Text to indicate the border in which to display this user text in the current layout.
After you associate user text with page layout areas, you must create a page layout or modify an existing page layout with the information to update it with the new information and then save your changes to a Web design.
