Modifying messages

CuteFTP Server can display messages to users in four situations:

Connection Message

The connection message appears when a user first connects, but before a user logs on.

To modify the Connection message

  1. Start the Administrator Interface and connect to the Server.

  2. At the bottom of the left pane, click the Server tab.

  3. In the left pane, select the Site you want to modify.

  4. In the right pane, click the Site Messages tab.

  5. In the Connect message box, enter the text that you want to appear when the user connects.

  6. Click Apply.

Login Message

Login messages may be applied at the User or User Setting Level. Users will automatically inherit the message applied to their User Setting Level.  You can optionally display a message unique to a User.

To modify the login message for a User or User Setting Level

  1. Start the Administrator Interface and connect to the Server.

  2. At the bottom of the left pane, click the Server tab.

  3. In the left pane, expand a Server Group, Server, Site, and User Setting Level.

  4. Click the Main tab.

  5. In the Login message list, choose an option.

  1. Click Apply.

Maximum Connections Message

You can configure a site to only allow a specified number of maximum simultaneous connections. If you choose this option, you can specify a message for users when the maximum simultaneous connections number is exceeded.

To Modify the Maximum Connections Message

  1. Start the Administrator Interface and connect to the Server.

  2. At the bottom of the left pane, click the Server tab.

  3. In the left pane, expand a Server Group and Server.

  4. Select the Site you wish to modify.

  5. In the right pane, click the Site Messages tab.

  6. In the User limit message box, enter the message you wish to display if the maximum simultaneous connections number is exceeded.

  7. Click Apply.

Exit Messages

The server can send an exit message when the client closes the session gracefully (using the FTP QUIT command).

To modify the exit message

  1. Start the Administrator Interface and connect to the Server.

  2. At the bottom of the left pane, click the Server tab.

  3. In the left pane, expand a Server Group and Server.

  4. Select the Site you wish to modify.

  5. In the right pane, click the Site Messages tab.

  6. In the Exit message box, enter the exit message you wish to display.

  7. Click Apply.

Note

CuteFTP Server will display an additional message after your login message stating that CuteFTP Server is for personal use only. This message cannot be modified. Tampering with the program in order to change or remove this hard-coded message is in direct violation of the CuteFTP Server license agreement.
