CuteFTP Server is comprised of various "levels" arranged in a hierarchical order.
Server Groups - represent the topmost level. It contains Servers, Sites, and everything else beneath it. If you happen to have multiple groups of Servers, you can add an additional Server Group.
Servers - represent one or more physical FTP Server (Server Engine) running on your local or remote system.
Sites - in CuteFTP Server home, only a single Site per server is allowed. In the corporate version (GlobalSCAPE Secure Server), you can have multiple Sites within each Server. Sites are like virtual FTP servers bound to one or more IP addresses. For CuteFTP Server home, you can think of the Site as the being the same as the Server. You can configure various Site-wide (Server-wide) settings which take precedence over settings defined at lower levels (User Setting Levels or User levels)
User Setting Levels - are contained within a Site. They represent a group of settings. Setting Levels are a powerful way of designating Users to a set of pre-defined settings. One Setting Level may by quite restrictive, while another may be quite liberal. Power users would be assigned to the more liberal level while guest users would be assigned to the more restrictive level.
Users - represent individual users (clients) and are housed under a Setting Level. You can cause each user to either inherit settings from the User Settings Level or define specific settings for that user.
Groups - are also housed under a User Setting Level. Groups relate to file and folder access permissions and are covered in more detail elsewhere in this document. Users can be assigned to a Group, which helps define what folders and files a particular user may have access to.
Commands and Event Rules - represent automated processes and are covered in more detail elsewhere in this document.
