Authentication MethodCuteFTP Server - home edition only supports the built-in database for authenticating users. Site root folderThis path determines where the Virtual File System’s (VFS's) root folder is located. On the VFS tab, you will see all the subfolders from this point on. Home IPThis is the IP address that the site will be located on. Because CuteFTP Server only allows a single site per server, you will only be able to select a single IP. The drop-down list is populated with IP’s available on the current machine and cannot be altered manually.
SecurityThe following are site-level security options. They affect every user on the site. Block anti-timeout schemesThis check box determines whether or not this site will block anti-timeout schemes. If these schemes are blocked, FTP clients attempting to keep their connection alive by sending valid but useless commands will be disconnected. Block site to site transfersThis check box determines whether or not this site will block site-to-site transfers -- specifically, PASV (Passive) mode transfers. PASV transfers are a method for a client to transfer files from one site to another site, but can also be used to attack an FTP server. Example: "Bounce attacks" Account Creation Options
Automatically create home folder for newly added users If this is enabled, each new user will have a personal home folder created as a Usr subfolder, visible on the VFS tab.
Allow user FULL permissions in this folder f this is enabled, each new user will have, by default, full permissions in their folder. Users can upload, download, rename, list, append, create, delete, etc. files in that folder. If you do not enable this check box, by default users will have only the standard DSL (download, show in list & list) permissions in that folder.
Passive (PASV) Mode OptionsUsers with firewalls often want to specify a PORT range which the PASV command will pick from when issuing IP:PORT information to clients. This allows firewall administrators to pre-allocate a block of IP:PORT holes to punch through the firewall for FTP traffic.
Assign PASV connection informationWhen you enable this check box, you can then choose to specify a PASV connection for a set IP address through a range of ports.
IPThe IP field is necessary since the NAT/Firewall might have a different IP address than the ftp server itself. If so, you can enter a separate IP address here, or leave the default 0000 and use the FTP site's IP address.
Port RangeEstablish the range of available ports by selecting or entering the lowest and highest numbers in the range in the available fields. |
