Attachment Browser

One of the great features that PDF documents possess is their ability to store attached files. Any kind of file, and any number of files, can be attached to a PDF. If you move the PDF document to a new location, the attachments move with it. The PDF action contains activities that support adding, removing, retrieving or extracting PDF file attachments. The Attachment Browser is a convenient interface that comes equipped with the PDF action which allows users to view and select files that are attached to a PDF document directly without the need to open Adobe Acrobat, Reader or equivalent PDF viewers.

Using the Attachment Browser

The Attachment Browser is a very simple tool used during task development to provide a way for you to view or select attachments embedded in a PDF document. It is accessible from the properties of the PDF - Get attachment(s) and PDF - Delete attachment(s) activities.

To access the Attachment Browser:

  1. In the properties of the PDF - Get attachment(s) or PDF - Delete attachment(s) activity, scroll down to the Attachment properties and toggle the option Specific file.

  2. Click the folder icon on the right side of the text-box. Doing so opens the Attachment Browser (displayed below).

  3. Add a check-mark to the file(s) you wish to retrieve or delete (depending on the activity chosen).

  4. Click Select to complete the operation and close the Attachment Browser. The files that you selected appear in the provided text-box delimited by a comma.

NOTE: If you know the names of the attached files, you can simply enter them manually in the provided text-box. If entering more than one filename, make sure to separate each with a comma: BPA.chm,AM.chm,myCoolFile.txt.
