CuteFTP Mac will automatically choose a transfer type, depending on the file that you are uploading or downloading. You can set CuteFTP Mac to use a specific transfer type for all transfers.
On the menu bar, choose CuteFTP Mac > Preferences. The Preferences window opens.
If you do not see ASCII/Binary on the left side of the Preferences window, expand Connection.
On the left side of the Preferences window, select ASCII/Binary.
On the right side of the window, choose a transfer type.
MacBinary should work for most transfers that you make.
Auto-detect checks the file type and size, and the FTP server, and then chooses the most effective FTP transfer type.
Binary is often used for program files and image files.
ASCII is most often used for documents and other text files.
Click OK.
You can choose a different transfer type for specific sites in your Site Manager.
We recommend MacBinary or Auto-detect for overall use, and the other modes only to force the transfer of specific files in a particular mode.
