Data Loss Prevention

Mail Express v4.2 and later allows you to configure third-party data loss prevention (DLP) scanning of files or messages processed by Mail Express.

To configure DLP settings

  1. Launch the Mail Express Server administration interface. (e.g., click Start > Programs > Globalscape > Mail Express > Mail Express Admin or double-click the desktop shortcut).

  2. Log in using the Mail Express server administrator username and password that you specified during installation of the server.

  3. In the navigation pane, click Configuration > Data Loss Prevention. The Data Loss Prevention Configuration page appears.

  4. Select the Enable content scanning check box to turn on DLP scanning. The rest of the settings appear.

  5. In the Connection Settings area, specify the Server Address, Port, and Path to the DLP server.

  6. Click Verify to ensure the settings are defined correctly and that Mail Express can connect to the DLP server.

  7. Optionally, you can Limit file scan to first <n> KB, MB, or GB, depending on the DLP server requirements. Certain servers only scan the first <n> bytes of a file, so limiting the file scan means that Mail Express will only send the part of the file that is to be scanned saves processing time.

When content scanning is enabled and the file scan limit is equal to ore more than the available RAM, a memory exception error occurs and the ICAP failure Event Type will appear in the Audit Event History. Therefore, you should set the scan limit to no more than the available RAM.

  8. In the Response Handling area, specify whether to Block and audit on violations or Audit only and don't block the email.

  9. Click Save to save your settings. If you leave the page without clicking Save, your changes are lost.
