DCS for Data at Rest (DaR)

NOTE: This product was previously known as Titus Illuminate.

January 2026

Version 7.0

January 20, 2026

IMPORTANT:

This release of DCS for DaR only supports TCPG Configuration files that are published in the SaaS or customer-hosted version of DCS Policy Manager. For more information on how to import and export Configuration files and author new Configurations, see the DCS Policy Manager documentation.

If you are still using the DCS Administration Console with DCS for Windows, you must install DCS for DaR 5.0 or an earlier version.

New Features
  • You can now perform Fileshare Discovery Scans to discover files in shared folders and subfolders. This feature helps you get started with your Fileshare Content Scans.

    • You can only perform a Fileshare Discovery Scan on a server that is in your network.

    • You cannot perform a Fileshare Discovery Scan on files located in an AWS S3 bucket. For this repository, you must create a Fileshare Content Scan from scratch.

  • For Fileshare repositories, you can now import third-party data and set classification values based on the information contained in a CSV file. Configuration is required in DCS Policy Manager (Schema Mapping) and DCS for DaR (Import Scans). Related changes include:

    • Added Ti.Import, Ti.ImportErrorLog, and Ti.ImportScan tables for Import Scans data.

    • In the Ti.FileMetadata table, there is a new FK_ImportId field, and MetadataSourceField will record imported events with an 'I' entry.

  • Added new Ti.ScanAudit and Ti.ScanAuditType database tables to store records every time a scan is created, edited, or deleted. Audit events are not recorded if using an XML file and command line parameters to run a scan.

  • Added support for the "Set custom property" action in DCS Policy Manager that adds or modifies a custom property for files during a DCS for DaR scan.

  • Added support for DCS for DaR interoperability with Classifier Suite. This feature enables DCS for DaR to write matching DCS and Classifier Suite labels to files when a Content Scan detects at least one of these labels.

  • DCS for DaR Microsoft Sensitivity Label Interoperability now supports GCC High environments. Updates include:

    • The Titus_FolderScan.exe.config file includes a new “CloudInstance” setting. For more information, see Data Classification Suite for Data at Rest Working with Microsoft Sensitivity Labels.

    • For SharePoint and OneDrive users, specify URLs for “Office365AuthenticationUrl” and “Office365DiscoveryUrl” in the web.config and commonappsettings.config files. The “Office365DiscoveryUrl” setting is new in this release. For more information, see the user guide for this repository.

Enhancements
  • Confirmed support for Microsoft Windows Server 2025.
  • To set the maximum number of scanner processes that can run concurrently in a single scan, configure "Maximum scanner processes" for Content Scans (under Advanced Settings). The “MaxParallelProcesses" setting in the commonappsettings.config file has been removed.
  • Changed the following DCS for DaR setting names to clarify purpose:

    • "SQL Server timeout" setting name changed to "Database Command timeout"

    • "IIS timeout" setting name changed to "Http client timeout"

Fixes
  • Fixed issue with errors appearing when trying to see the results of a SharePoint Online Discovery Scan.
  • Fixed issue with Content Scans failing on SharePoint Online sites because the scan user was not the site owner. The fix for this issue involves temporarily adding the scan user as a site owner while the site is being scanned.
  • Improved the process that allows other DCS for DaR servers to join a running scan.
Considerations
  • The latest version of DCS Policy Manager (Customer-hosted) supports custom actions. This includes the option to use the Fortra-defined DDE Server Response custom action.

NOTE: Only DCS Policy Manager (Customer-hosted) supports custom actions, which are not available in DCS Policy Manager (SaaS).
  • Vera integration is not supported in any DCS Policy Manager platform.

  • For copy and move actions for SharePoint, DCS for DaR requires a full path for the "Destination" parameter. DCS for DaR allowed relative paths prior to the 6.0 release, but this is unreliable. Confirm you are providing the full path if you configured these actions for SharePoint scans. You can find the full path in the "Details" of a SharePoint folder or file.

June 2025

Version 6.1

June 17, 2025

IMPORTANT:

This release of DCS for DaR only supports TCPG Configuration files that are published in the cloud or customer-hosted version of DCS Policy Manager. For more information on how to import and export Configuration files and author new Configurations, see the DCS Policy Manager documentation.

If you are still using the DCS Administration Console with DCS for Windows, you must install DCS

for DaR 5.0 or an earlier version.

Fixes
  • Fixed issue with SharePoint content scans not scanning all SharePoint document libraries.
  • Fixed issue with SharePoint content scans not working as expected for SharePoint Server 2016 sites.

April 2025

Version 6.0

April 4, 2025

IMPORTANT:

This release of DCS for DaR only supports TCPG Configuration files that are published in DCS

Policy Manager (Cloud). For more information on how to import and export Configuration files and

author new Configurations, see the DCS Policy Manager (Cloud) documentation.

If you are still using the DCS Administration Console with DCS for Windows, you must install DCS

for DaR 5.0 or an earlier version.

New Features
  • You must use DCS Policy Manager (Cloud) to create Configurations for each DCS for DaR scanner.

  • Added support for new actions in DCS Policy Manager (Cloud):

    • Add SharePoint managed metadata

    • Apply date offset

Enhancements
  • Confirmed support for SharePoint Server Subscription Edition.

Fixes
  • Fixed issue where DCS for DaR was unable to classify files in SharePoint Online folders that included the percentage symbol (%) in the folder name.

  • Fixed token access issue for SharePoint Server Subscription Edition.

  • Fixed issue that led to this error: “Object reference not set to an instance of an object on server. The object is associated with property Author.”

Considerations
  • DCS for DaR 6.0 cannot support the following features because they are not supported in the DCS Policy Manager (Cloud) 2025.01 release:

    • Custom Actions

    • Smart Regex Dynamic Property

    • Vera integration

  • For copy and move actions for SharePoint, DCS for DaR 6.0 requires a full path for the "Destination" parameter. Relative paths were allowed in previous releases, but this is unreliable. Confirm you are providing the full path if you configured these actions for SharePoint scans. You can find the full path in the "Details" of a SharePoint folder or file.

December 2024

Version 5.0.2

December 16, 2024

Enhancements
  • Improved management of expiring and refreshing tokens to reduce duplicated work

Fixes
  • Fixed issues pertaining to scanning SharePoint and OneDrive files and folders:

    • Extended the existing scheme which looked for a “401” status code in the caught exception message. If it is unauthorized, a structured exception is generated which all callers analyze and initiate a retry of the command if required.

    • The following instances are retried as SharePoint throttling events:

      • ServerException with text message "System.IO.IOException"

      • WebException with Status WebExceptionStatus.Timeout

      • WebExceptionStatus.SendFailure

      • WebExceptionStatus.KeepAliveFailure,

      • WebExceptionStatus.ReceiveFailure

    • When performing an incremental scan, we no do not process files that were successfully processed in a previous iteration of the scan and have not subsequently changed.

    • Folders with '#' character in the name scan successfully

NOTE: We made improvements to address the issue of Modified Date & Modified By values not being preserved in SharePoint history after writing metadata to a file. Note that in rare circumstances (such as SharePoint throttling), this issue can still occur.

October 2024

Version 5.0 HF1

October 23, 2024

Enhancements
  • Improved SharePoint online processing, specifically SharePoint throttling, token refresh, and performance

Fixes
  • Updated cloud credentials default value in commonappsettings.config and web.config files

September 2024

Version 5.0

September 10, 2024

IMPORTANT: DCS for DaR 5.0 is the last release that will use a TCPG file generated from the DCS Administration Console. Subsequent releases will support TCPG files generated from Policy Manager only.
NOTE: If you are using the Illuminate Intelligence Pack 1.0 for Illuminate 2022.0 or Illuminate Intelligence Pack 1.1 for Illuminate 2023.0, an error occurs in these Intelligence Packs after you install or upgrade to DCS for DaR 5.0. See the following Knowledge Base Article on how to fix this issue. Contact Support to get the latest Illuminate Intelligence Pack.
New Features
  • DCS for DaR now includes online help. Click to the left of the username in the top-right corner in DCS for DaR.

  • You can now run a OneDrive Discovery scan. This allows you to scan the SharePoint tenant for all OneDrives. It presents all discovered OneDrives and folders within them along with file counts. You can select the results you want and create a content scan.

  • Two new database table views, Ti.vScanFileSharePermissions and Ti.vScanFileShareFolderPermissions, have been added. These tables collect information about who has access to files/folders and the type of access that user has to the file/folder when scanning Fileshares.

Enhancements
  • Titus Illuminate has been renamed to Fortra's Data Classification Suite (DCS) for Data at Rest (DaR) (on-premises)

  • You can select multiple scans at the same time for deletion from the Discovery Definitions, Content Scans, and Scan Queues

  • DCS for DaR is now supported on Microsoft SQL Server 2022 and Microsoft SQL Server Express 2022

  • You can no longer create a local SQL Express instance when installing DCS for DaR

  • When DCS for DaR archives files using a Move or Copy rule, the original repository folder structure will be preserved in the target location. This is only supported for Fileshare repository type.

  • Smart Regex can now detect the Brazilian CPF (Cadastro de Pessoas Físicas) identification number

Fixes
  • Data at Rest does not detect content in Microsoft Word using a regex content validation (CV) profile. The applied Metadata should reflect “Password” as the regex in the CV profile should match the text in Word and text files.

  • Last Accessed Time condition is failing

  • No metadata is treated as an error for MSG files
