Version 2021.1
September 2021
New Features
-
A web-based UI for Cloud Credential Management has been developed to replace TITUS_ICM. Users can now generate a token for SharePoint Online/One Drive, Box for Business, and Dropbox for Business using the Credential Manager tab in the UI. See the Titus Illuminate Deployment Guide for more information.
NOTE: TITUS_ICM.exe could not get a new token because DropBox.com no longer supports Internet Explorer 11. If you are a new Illuminate user scanning DropBox files or an existing user requiring a new token, you will now use the new web-based UI to get authentication tokens for DropBox and all other supported Cloud credentials. -
You can use Cloud applications with custom credentials to generate tokens if you are scanning files in OneDrive, SharePoint Online, Box for Business, or Dropbox for Business. You must add your custom credentials to the web.config and TITUS_ICM.exe.config files. Ensure your Redirect URL points to the URL where Illuminate is installed. If your Illuminate URL is localhost, the Redirect URL will be: http://localhost/IlluminateReply. If it is not, the Redirect URL will be in the format: <IlluminateURL>/CredentialManager/Reply.
NOTE: You do not have to use custom credentials; you can use the ones provided by Titus. For more information on the new Credential Manager and Cloud applications, see the Titus Illuminate Deployment Guide.
Enhancements

November 2020
Version 2021.0
November 2020
New Features
- Titus Illuminate allows you to scale your servers so that if you are scanning many files, one or more secondary servers can join the scan already in progress on a primary server. In this way, the workload is shared amongst multiple processes, each of which can have multiple threads. Scans finish much faster and overall performance is improved. For more information, see Titus Illuminate Scanning Guide and Titus Illuminate Deployment Best Practices Guide.
-
Depending on the number of files you are scanning, charts and graphs on the Dashboard can take some time to generate. Enabling the Data Mart toggle allows you to summarize your data, so charts generate and appear on the Dashboard faster when the scan successfully completes. The data is summarized into new database tables using a special SQL script. For more information, see the Titus Illuminate Scanning Guide and Titus Illuminate File Inventory Reference Guide.
Enhancements
-
If you have scanned files and folders, and then made changes to some of the files or folders, Titus Illuminate will scan only those files or folders that have changes. If a file or folder has not been changed, Illuminate will not scan it again. This will improve overall performance of your scans. This helps scans finish much faster and improve overall performance. For more information, see Titus Illuminate Scanning Guide.
-
Titus Illuminate will show a status of Interrupted if a scan fails from which Illuminate can recover. The scan will resume from the point of failure. If the scan cannot resume, the status shows Failed.
Fixes
-
Illuminate 2020.0 removes quotes from metadata values returned by TAP when being inserted to the database.
-
When performing a SharePoint Discovery scan, SharePoint 2010 folders cannot be accessed. The SharePoint Discovery continues but an error occurs which causes issues where not all files and folders are getting picked up.
- When using Google Chrome, if Advanced Settings fields have invalid content, Illuminate cannot save a scan. This is difficult to see as the Advanced Settings are collapsed by default. Titus Illuminate has disabled Autofill Form for email fields. The user is notified when they enter an invalid email address in Advanced Settings.
- Verasdk.dll file is missing from %Program Files\TITUS\Titus Illuminate when VERA is installed. Updates have been made to the VERA Integration Guide that the Verasdk.dll must be downloaded from the VERA portal.
-
Illuminate/VERA Custom Action fails to initialize. The URL does not use a recognized protocol. Updates have been made to the VERA Integration Guide that the Configuration must be saved as VeraConfiguration.json, not <AppName>-VeraConfiguration.json.
-
Illuminate OneDrive scan fails. User has insufficient privileges.
July 2020
Version 2020.1 SP1
July 2020
New Feature
-
Titus Illuminate can scan files and folders stored in an Amazon S3 bucket or FSx as a Fileshare scan. Titus recommends that you setup the virtual private cloud (VPC) with a subnet in order to keep your resources secure.
Enhancements
-
This release of Titus Illuminate provides compatibility with Titus Classification Suite 2020.1 SP1 Administration Console.
-
PAUSE/RESUME introduced a folder discovery process so that scanning can be paused and resumed. The complete folder structure is discovered and kept in memory before starting the file processing. For large complex folder structures, this could cause a delay of many hours, or even days, before scanning started.
Fixes
-
Foreign Key relation missing between Inventory and Folder Tables on upgrade to 2020.1.
-
Scan completes with state of “Finished”, however not all files were not scanned on NTFS shares target.
-
Local time option displays UTC in Scan Table.

-
A SQL timeout exception is thrown when running a re-scan (Quick scan) on a large database.
-
SharePoint Discovery and Inventory Scan show different file counts.
May 2020
Version 2020.1
May 2020
New Features
-
Titus Illuminate allows a user to apply Titus metadata to a file which could automatically trigger VERA protection.
-
Titus Illuminate allows a user to pause scans, then resume them from the last folder in scan queue. Resume skips all the folders that were scanned before the pause, ensuring that your scan durations are not overburdened. You can also download a report for paused scans. Changes were made to the database schema for this functionality. The folder information was moved to its own table, thus reducing redundancy and database size. If you are upgrading your Illuminate version, there will be a delay on the initial database migration as the installer migrates the previously-collected data to the new format. If you have your own queries or reports, changes may be required to your schema tables.
-
Titus Illuminate now allows an administrator to scan 100,000 or more OneDrive users using special OneDrive service account and a PowerShell script obtained from Customer Support.
Enhancements
-
The Home Page to the Dashboard has been changed to show the first scan found in the list, instead of all scans. The Dashboard now displays the completed scans in alphabetical order. These changes improve the overall user experience when loading the Home Page of Dashboard.
-
Titus Illuminate will show a status of Interrupted if a scan fails from which Illuminate can recover. The scan will resume from the point of failure. If the scan cannot resume, the status shows Failed.
-
Titus Illuminate supports scanning file share paths longer than 260 characters if Titus Illuminate is installed on Windows 2016 Server or Windows 10 (version 1067 or greater).
Fixes
-
Scan status when cleanup fails should be "Finished". Files showed not being processed even when they were.
-
Cannot determine version of SharePoint if errors occur when trying to scan SharePoint files.
-
Locked files showed an error in the database but were marked as processed.
-
Illuminate breaks a folder path that contains a comma (,), semi-colon (;), and colon (:) into two paths.
-
User cannot download a scan report when more than 2,000,000 files are scanned.
-
Authentication failed when trying to get a SharePoint online token.

Scan only files owned by the current Box user. When this scan option is enabled, any folders that are not explicitly owned by the account being scanned are excluded.
Fixes
-
As part of increased security updates, Microsoft announced that Azure AD authorization codes will no longer be available for reuse. Illuminate Credential Manager’s Iluminate.Local.TCPG token refresh updates fail.
-
Temp files are left behind on the Illuminate instance after Titus Illuminate scans are terminated unexpectedly.
-
Scanning of customized OneDrive URLs returns “Cannot access SharePoint Account … (401) Unauthorized”. To access a OneDrive subfolder the alternate access mapping (AAM), or Vanity URL, is https://myfiles.acme.com/personal/fname_lname_acme_com/Documents. When entered as the scan path in the scan settings, an error is returned: location not found. This path does not match the standard OneDrive URL format: https://TENANT-my.sharepoint.com/personal/user1_TENANT_onmicrosoft_com/Documents.
-
Access Tokens are not properly refreshed for customized Vanity OneDrive/SharePoint URLs.
-
When Scanning box.com, the following access error occurs intermittently: Cannot download file [dev/titusTest.pptx] from Box. Titus.Cloud.SDK.CloudException.CloudException: Failed to save the cloud stream to local file ---> System.ObjectDisposedException: Cannot access a closed Stream.
-
Illuminate scans were not handling sub-sites correctly on SharePoint 2010. Illuminate was determining the site name from the URL file path, but when there were sub-sites in the path, Illuminate confused a folder or document library with a sub-site. The following error occurs: Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.ServerException: List 'team' does not exist at site with URL 'http://sp2010.teams.acme.com/team/tituspoc'.
-
When an error message is added to the TI.ErrorLog table, the InventoryID of the file is not always recorded as FK_InventoryID , even though the filename is recorded in the error message, and there is an TI.Inventory record for the file.
-
Content Validation of Outlook MSG files with an embedded file does not return any message text for validation.
-
Illuminate multi-threaded scans which execute complex Content Validation policies are incorrectly setting classification on files. The classification is inconsistent between scans of the same files.
-
Attempting to scan SharePoint Online returns an error: Cannot access SharePoint account. Cannot determine the SharePoint version.
-
When scanning a SharePoint site collection that contains greater than 5000 items, the following error occurs: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. This is caused by the list view threshold setting in SharePoint. SharePoint will not return a list longer than the threshold setting (usually 5000 items) in an API call.
-
Embedded metadata cannot be written to Microsoft Visio files (VSDX, VSSX, VSTX). This functionality was disabled in a previous version of the Titus Administration Console because Visio file types could become corrupted when metadata was written. The files are now supported and the concern about possible corruption has been addressed.
-
Token information is not updated in Titus.Illuminate.Local.tcpg. Scan targets that use tokens (such as Office 365) are not scanned successfully unless Titus.Illuminate.Local.tcpg is deleted and recreated.
-
Older Microsoft Office documents with a newer file extension cause the following error when being scanned in SharePoint: String was not recognized as a valid DateTime. The last modified or created dates are not updated for these files in SharePoint as expected. For example, this error occurs when a DOC file has a DOCX extension but is still encoded as a Word 97-2003 document.
-
When scanning files on a file share, if the last access date is null, an error occurs when the inventory record is written to the Titus Illuminate database: Cannot set Column 'LastAccessedDate' to be null. Please use DBNull instead. The inventory records are not saved.
-
Titus Illuminate crashes when it scans some TIFF/TIF files. The scan lists 0 files processed. Users are unable to generate authentication tokens for Microsoft OneDrive or Microsoft SharePoint Online. As of November 1, 2019, Microsoft deprecated the discovery service and replaced it with the Microsoft Graph API. This prevents Titus Illuminate from retrieving SharePoint Online or OneDrive tokens from the deprecated service. Users may see the following error message: OneDrive Authentication Failed. Titus Illuminate is not able to regenerate tokens after existing tokens expire.
-
The PDF Embedded Adapter adds an XMP packet to password-protected PDF files when the PDF file already contains an encrypted version of the XMP. The operation results in a corrupted PDF.
