Resetting the EFT Server Administrator Password

If you have multiple EFT Server administrator accounts and need to reset one of them, refer to Changing an Administrator Password or Access Rights instead of the procedure below.

You can define multiple EFT Server administrator accounts in EFT Server, and any server administrator account can edit another. What do you do if you have only one administrator account and you forget the password? You can reset it using the procedure below; however, you will lose all user- and group-specific settings. The user accounts and their folder structures will remain, but permissions and settings will be lost.

Be sure to back up any other files in EFT Server installation folder that you will need, such as certificates. The easiest method is to back up the entire Server directory (by default, C:\Program Files\GlobalSCAPE\EFT).

To reset the administrator username and password (if there are no other admin accounts from which to access EFT Server)

  1. In the Windows Services dialog box, stop the EFT Server service.

  2. Navigate to the EFT Server data folder. (By default, C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\GlobalSCAPE\EFT Server Enterprise.)

  3. The user accounts and folder structures are stored in one or more files with an .aud extension (e.g., MySite.aud). Copy these configuration files to a safe place for backup.

  4. Using the Windows Add/Remove Programs utility, uninstall EFT Server.

  5. Reinstall EFT Server.

  6. Create a new administrator username and password.

  7. Open the Administrator and login with your new username and password.

  8. Recreate your Site(s) with the EXACT same name(s) as you previously used. The Site name must match character for character.

  9. In the Windows Services dialog box, stop the GlobalSCAPE Server service.

  10. Copy the .aud files that you saved in step 3 and paste them into the folder where you have installed EFT Server. Click Yes when asked if you want to overwrite the existing .aud files.

  11. Restart the EFT Server service and log in. The individual groups and user accounts should be preserved; however, you must reassign permissions and settings.
