Installing or Updating Powertech Antivirus Server

The following steps describe how to install or update Powertech Antivirus Server (used in conjunction with Fortra Application Hub) to manage Powertech Antivirus on your network. For instructions on installing or updating Powertech Antivirus on Endpoints, see the Installing or Updating Powertech Antivirus on Endpoints section in this document.

The Powertech Antivirus Server requires a running Fortra Application Hub installation. See the Fortra Application Hub Installation Guide for details on installing Fortra Application Hub prior to installing Powertech Antivirus Server.

Fortra Application Hub and Powertech Antivirus Server must be installed on separate systems.

IMPORTANT: If you are upgrading from Powertech Antivirus for Insite, do not install Powertech Antivirus Server on the existing Insite server.

Download and Extract the Installer

  1. Download the appropriate Powertech Antivirus Server installer file for your system from the Fortra Support Portal.
    • ptavserver_rhel8_6.40.tgz
    • ptavserver_rhel9_6.40.tgz
  2. Move the installation file to the Linux system you would like to use to manage Powertech Antivirus. You can save the installation file to the /tmp directory.

  3. Extract the file using the following command:

    tar -xvf ptavserver_xxxxx_n.nn.tgz

(where xxxxx represents the Red Hat Enterprise version and n.nn represents the Powertech Antivirus Server version number).

Run the Installer

Perform these actions for both new installations and updating an existing installation.

  1. If you are updating an existing installation run the command: cd ptavweb_install before continuing.

  1. Type the following command to begin the installation:

    ./serverInstall -v

    where:

    -v is for verbose (optional)
NOTE: For an automated install please see Automated Installation.
WARNING: If, at this point, the following error is reported:
    BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at include/determineInstall.p1 line 14
or if you encounter any other messages like:

    "Can't locate <insert module here> in @INC "

Then at least one of the packages listed in the pre-requisites is still missing and will need to be installed before this installation can continue.

  1. When prompted to 'Please review the following license agreement carefully', press Enter to display the license agreement.

TIP: Press 'h' to see how to move forward through the text.
  2. When prompted to 'Do you accept the terms in the License Agreement (Y/N)?' press Y to begin the installation process (or N to terminate it).

  3. If prompted to select the Fully Qualified Domain name, enter 1 to choose the default, or 2 to customize.

IMPORTANT: During installation you will be prompted to provide a hostname for the Powertech Antivirus Server.

Select the Fully Qualified Domain Name you would like to use for this Server:

    Option 1 - hostname.domain.name

Option 2 - Enter a Custom Fully Qualified Domain Name

The value "1" is the hostname that the installation script has detected. Select 1 and press enter to use this value.
The value "2" allows you to type a different hostname.

This hostname must be resolvable by the Powertech Antivirus Server and any Powertech Antivirus endpoints that you may connect. When you register an endpoint you should use the value provided here for the -s parameter of the registration process. See Connecting a Powertech Antivirus Endpoint to Powertech Antivirus Server.

If you are performing an update, you are now done.

If this is a new installation, return to Fortra Application Hub and click Close to dismiss the Create Registration key pane. An additional row appears in the product list.
