Difference between Alarms and Alerts
Alarms
Alarms are raised by Secure Email Gateway components that monitor the state of the system. Their purpose is to flag conditions that the systems administrator should be aware of.
Alarms range from indications that a new upgrade is available, warnings that there is a problem with the system such as low disk space, to warnings about hardware problems such as disk failure.
Alerts
Alerts are related to content rules and Policy Engine problems. The Policy Engine of your Secure Email Gateway can generate an alert when:
- A Generate an Alert action is set within a content rule, and the content rule is triggered
- A Policy Engine problem occurs
All alerts are recorded in the Policy Enforcement Alerts log.
