Create or Edit a Social Media Policy Route

In addition to a Web Policy Route, you can also add Social Media Policy routes to extend your content security policy. Social Media Routes enable you to configure how members of your organization access and use social media applications such as Facebook and Twitter.

  The Gateway provides a number of default social media policy routes which have been preconfigured. These policy routes can be adapted and applied to users and machine lists to meet your requirements. The following routes are available:

  • Facebook
  • LinkedIn
  • Twitter
  • YouTube

  Social Media Policy Routes are supplied with the following sets of content rules:

How do I...

• Create a new social media policy route?

  1. Click Policy > Web Policy Routes.
  2. Click New. The Add a New Route dialog box displays a selection of types of policy route.
  3. Select the type of route you want to create using the option buttons. Click Add. The Modify Policy Route page is displayed.
  4. Edit the Overview information by clicking Click here to change these settings. You can add a Name and any relevant Notes to identify your new policy route. Click Save.

  5. In the Traffic section, click New to define the To and From endpoints. The Add Route Selector dialog is displayed. Select the user or machine list(s) for your To endpoint(s) and the Internet Zones for your From endpoint(s) from the available options and click Add.

     When you add a social media policy route, the available Internet Zones for your From endpoint only include the zone for the social media policy route type you selected. For example, If you select Facebook as your social media policy route type, then only Facebook appears in your list of Internet Zones. You can create a new machine list, user name list or Internet Zone using the options in the Task Panel.

  6. Configure the default action using the By Default Perform This Action section. Select an action from the drop-down list and click Save.

  7. Apply any additional content rules to the route if required. Click New in the Unless One of These Content Rules Triggers section.

  8. Apply Configuration.
• Modify a social media policy route?

  1. Click Policy > Web Policy Routes.

  2. Select the route you want to modify and click Edit. The Modify Policy Route page is displayed. You can edit the route in the same way as you would edit a simple Web Policy Route.

• Block Facebook Chat?

  1. Click Policy > Web Policy Routes and select the Facebook policy route you want to edit.

  2. Edit the Facebook Chat content rule to Block Facebook Chat.

• Block Status Updates?

  1. Click Policy > Web Policy Routes and select the Facebook policy route you want to edit.

  2. Edit the ...Updates content rule and configure it to Block.

• Block Applications?

  1. Click Policy > Web Policy Routes and select the Facebook or LinkedIn policy route you want to edit.

  2. Edit the Facebook Applications or LinkedIn Applications content rule to Block.
