Scan Features
Once the client’s account has been set up, the next step is to create and run scans. See Create and Run Scans for more information.
- If Business Groups are enabled, see Business Groups for set up steps.
-
To create Asset Groups, it is important to understand the difference between dynamic and standard asset groups. See Asset Groups for more information.
NOTE: If you want some assets to count more or less towards your Security GPA, you can adjust an asset group's risk weight to fit your needs. The higher the weight, the more those assets affect your score.
- When provisioning scan credentials for authenticated internal scanning, it is important to first set up the configurations and then apply. See Scanning for more information.
- Creating labels requires understanding the difference between Active Labels and Smart Labels as well as an understanding of the fields within Create Smart Labels. See Work with Labels for more information.
-
Scan Policies are used to define a set of instructions for a scanner. Fortra VM offers default policies for several common scanning objectives. In addition, you can create or modify customized scans to suit a client’s needs. For further guidance on creating and modifying Scan Policies, see Scanning.
NOTE: Running authenticated scanning requires a client create their own scanning credentials. These credentials can be created within the scan policy, but modifying and deleting credentials can only be done through the Credentials Manager. This is located in Fortra VM under Scan Settings > Scan Credentials.
- During the set up of a new client’s account, the MSP will define initial and recurring scans according to the parameters defined in the contract. Ensure specification of the Recurrence Schedule is defined for the scan frequency and rate over the course of a year. For guidance on the creation of recurring scans, see Create and Run Scans.
See Client Account Maintenance for guidance regarding additional account management features.
